Just as eating a healthy diet and getting exercise are important to our well being, our relationships really matter too. Sometimes we underestimate them and take people for granted. The best gift you can give yourself and your friend, partner, or even business associate is some of your undivided time. Turn off your phone, turn off the TV, and make eye contact. Let them talk while you really listen and ask questions. Let them know you understand how they are feeling and share your own stories. When you shift your focus to that person, you give yourself a chance to really connect. Watch your body language. Make sure your body is turned toward them. Don’t cross your arms in front of your chest. Smile. That person will feel like they are being heard and it will generate a lot of positive feelings. Try this with at least one person TODAY. Only good can come out of this. Then, keep doing it.
